Aaronantium's Vidding Bootcamp

Do you have a vid idea that's been making you crazy but you never got it done? Join us in weekly workshops and online activities as we study vidding techniques and styles.

Both those new to vidding and more experienced vidders are welcome! Final works will be ready to premiere at the virtual DC-Slash Con 2021.

Sessions will be held on Sundays from 13:00-16:00 EST, however, materials will remain online if you are unable to attend during "class time". The Bootcamp will run May 16 - August 8 on edmodo.com. Registration is open until May 1st.

First, for those who only follow us here, my most sincere apologies for not staying up to date on Dreamwidth. I give you my promise to try to do better. If I fall behind, please feel free to contact me and prod me.

Second, so between the DC-Slash Discord and the FB group, Aaronantium and I have decided we have enough interest to do a virtual con. The dates are August 13-15, 2021 and it will be held using Discord, Kosmi and Zoom.

Registration is open and it is free. Mostly registration is to give us an idea of how many are attending and to make it easier to communicate with everyone.
Panel Suggestions are up and running. Click on the link to make your suggestion. The more the better. We'll vote later on to see which ones we'll actually have for the con.
Already Suggested Panels are available for you to look over. All of the suggestions made in the form will show up automatically.

Today is Supernatural Saturday. We're going to be jumping around through the series so that we can be sure to get some of the highlights for different characters. We'll have Sam, Dean, and Bobby, but we'll also have Gabriel, Balthazar and Castiel and, of course, Crowley. Jody and Donna will be covered too and we can't leave out Chuck. What is Eureka?

Eureka ran from 2006 to 2012. The concept is a town created for all of the great minds to live in and work together. The Oppenheimer descendants still live there. Explosions are normal because you never know what type of experiment is going on. Jack Carter the Sherriff is one of the regular, normal people dealing with a town full of people who are used to being the smartest of smartest. It is a fun show in itself, but it is also great for crossing over with your other fandoms with smart people. You can find several great SGA/Eureka stories at A03.

Characters Include:

Sheriff Jack Carter: Normal intelligence, but good at figuring situations and people out.

Dr. Nathan Stark: Modelled after Tony Stark. Brilliant scientist, not so good with people. Came back hoping to get back together with his ex-wife. Nathan and Jack fight over Allison all the time but have a love-hate relationship with each other.

Dr. Henry Deacon: Brilliant man, trained Nathan, best friends with Carter.

Fargo: Scientist, Assistant to the head of Global Dynamics, and general adorkable nerd who manages to mess things up.

Deputy Jo Lupo:  Complete Badass who still quietly misses not getting to do girly things.

Allison Blake: Works for the government and is supposed to be the love interest for both Nathan and Jack.

Zoe Carter: Jack's teenage daughter.

Here is the lineup:

China Rain: Second episode of the series. McCall is called in by the Chinese housekeeper when her child is kidnapped instead of her employer's child. McCall needs help so he goes to Control to find his old protege, Mickey.
Breakpoint: Still first season, but toward the end. McCall goes to the wedding of an old friend and the wedding reception gets taken hostage. McCall is working on keeping hostages and perpetrators calm while waiting for his opportunity while Mickey works to find his way in to help McCall.
The Cup: Second Season. Mickey is hanging out at McCall's when a news broadcast shows that his brother the priest was the witness to a murder. Mickey is desperate to protect his brother even though said brother doesn't approve of how Mickey lives his life.
Beyond Control: Second Season. Control comes to Robert because he's being set up and needs Robert to take him on as a client. They end up protecting the niece of a mutual friend/agent. This is fodder for the old boyfriend vs new boyfriend fans - those who do Control/Robert and those who do Mickey/McCall.
Mission McCall 1 & 2: Third Season. Edward Woodward had a heart attack and they had to come up with something to cover for it. They had McCall go missing. Scott (Robert's son), Mickey, Control and some new additions, like Harley, join the cast in this two-part episode. This is the basis for a lot of the Scott/Mickey and the Scott/Harley fic.
Splinters: Fourth and Final Season. The KGB have captured Mickey and are brainwashing him using a new technique. They want him to kill McCall as the ultimate proof of the technique. Tons of Mickey angst and Robert losing his mind trying to find him.

Title: What I Always Knew

Pairing: Third Doctor/Brigadier, Jamie/Second Doctor, Sarah Jane/Fourth Doctor

Commentary: The Doctor's soulmate changes with each regeneration. The focus is on the Brig who knows that the Two had Jamie as a soulmate and therefore knows that when he sees that Sarah Jane also has a soulmark that says Doctor that it will be another regeneration.

On Tuesday, we'll be watching The Equalizer. This is the original television series with Edward Woodward. The basic premise is CIA operative has left the Company (even though they don't want to let him leave) and is dealing with his issues by advertising to help people in the newspaper - odds against you, call the Equalizer. He, along with friends who are still working for the Company, help people in New York with all kinds of problems from kidnappings to murder threats to living in apartments run by a slum lord. Okay, since we got 5 votes online for the Brig and 4 votes online and 1 offline vote for Turlough, we are doing 2 storylines each and then finishing with The Five Doctors. We're going to go Brig/Turlough/Brig/Turlough/Both. It will be a late-night for those wishing to stay for the whole thing!

Do you know Red Dwarf?

It's been on for ages, but a surprising number of people don't know it. You don't generally see Science Fiction Comedy sit-coms.

Basically, in the future, Dave Lister works on the mining ship Red Dwarf. He breaks up with his girlfriend and is sad so he smuggles a cat on board. When he refuses to hand over Frankenstein to the authorities, he is put into suspended animation for the rest of the trip. While he's out, his direct supervisor and roommate (how's that for a combination) Rimmer is somehow put in charge of fixing a drive plate (this is the guy who mostly makes sure that the food dispensers work). Needless to say, this does not go well and everyone dies, but not for long. Holly, the ship's computer, keeps Dave in suspended animation until it is safe to come out (mind you in the meantime, the human race has died out, an entire race of cat people had evolved, had holy wars, and left the ship except for the sick and the lame, and they've gotten so far out into space that they have no idea where they are). So basically the series is Dave, Cat (descended from Frankenstein, the Holy Mother), a Hologram version of Rimmer, and later on a neurotic droid named Kryton, flying around the universe and trying not to mess up (usually unsuccessfully.)

Today, we'll be watching Red Dwarf. We're starting with a couple of season 1 episodes, but then we'll be working our way through some of the best episodes of the other seasons since the series has run so long. 1:30 EST https://app.kosmi.io/room/caqu1x

What is Sex Education?

It is a British series that is ostensibly about Otis, the insecure son of a sex therapist (played by Gillian Anderson) who is convinced to start holding therapy sessions at school by Maeve (who he has a thing for). For our group, we really don't care much about the Otis /Maeve and later on Otis/Ola plotlines. We are much more focused on Otis' best friend, Eric, who is openly gay and is from a religious Nigerian family AND his strange up and down relationship with the school bully, Adam, who is also the son of the headmaster that can do nothing right in his father's eyes.

This week, we are showcasing British fandoms. On Tuesday, we'll be watching Sex Education. On Thursday, we'll be watching Red Dwarf and, on Saturday, we'll be watching original Doctor Who.

Today, we continue with Star Trek week. We'll be watching (1:30) ST: The Wrath of Khan, (3:15) ST: The Search for Spock, (4:50) ST: The Reboot, & (6:50) ST: Into Darkness. In response to asking the group what they want to do in the future...

Starting in September:

Fandom of the Week with fic recommendations returns. If you would like to sign up to do a week, contact me to set up your dates. You need to be able to make at least 7 recommendations of fic and vids.
The first Saturday of the month will be an online House Party with different rooms for different activities (a living room to chat in, a tv room to stream in, a study breakout room if you want to hold a smaller conversation and are getting lost in the living room chatter, etc.)
Wednesday Hump Day Social Gatherings starting at 7:00 pm EST (at least in September/October as we transition). We can stream something, watch vids, chat, or just play cards.
Binge Day Saturdays will be held starting at 1:00 EST on any Saturday that isn't a house party. When possible, we will match it up with the fandom of the week for the following week (watch on Saturday and then get recommendations all week long).

is putting together a Vidding Boot Camp. Once he has the details worked out, we will post more information.
